Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan,
yes it's a name of a country and Baku city is the capital. Though the name
sounds a bit odd it was in my wish list since I heard about it.
First
question comes in our mind is the location….
This
Country is on the west bank of Caspian Sea. We heard a little about it but yes
it's a small sea surrounded by earth from all four side. It’s a part of Soviet
Russia separated since 1991.
We
reached Baku in the morning via Sharjah. Unexpectedly pleasant waves of winds
welcomed us with our car driver. A neat and tidy airport but less crowded.
On
our way to city, the drive of twenty minutes was cool experience.Good
wide roads, automatic toll gates ,huge skyline of buildings, good obedient
manner driving! Great experience!!
People here are very soft spoken. Just got the information that its a Muslim
country but very open minded culture. Nothing compulsorily like Dubai . We saw
2 or 3 big mosques only in the city. Currency is Manat approx. equal 41 Indian
rupees.
Money
exchange counters available in market areas too. The big well-constructed
roads, the huge buildings, the boulevard, Nizami Street. Huge stadiums other
than cricket and Museum buildings are great tourist attractions ,shows their
love for sports. A list of museums is long so also event and exhibitions too.
Metro
runs through the city since 1968! Nice and cheapest transportation Method. Nizami
Street ,the Port area and the boulevard shows ideal enjoyed by the population
in this part of world.
The
old City- Very beautiful experience along with heritage hotels, old monuments and
famous Maidan tower tells the history of Baku. Preserved nicely the culture and
heritage ,the local guides help you sharing their knowledge. The history is
nice but communication in English is not that good. Bhavanaoko Samjho types.Maidan
tower is a must visit place .
The
cleanliness and the culture is
incomparable. Smoking and having drink anywhere and everywhere doesn't affect
cleanliness and law and order also. Such open minded people follow no dress
code too. Still all safe. Police are rarely visible so also all toll gates and
house gate too are automised.
The
Nizami Street is great hangout spot. Local coffee shops, perfume shops to brand
stores with live music, makes it a happening
place. ‘Walking street ‘gives everybody everything.
The
long boulevard too best option on the bank of Caspian sea.
The
festival Navroj is the Diwali of the Azerbaijan.
The
original land of Zorashtrian is beautiful with best Hayder Aliyev centre where
great artist shows great collection of arts in a huge complex. The culture, art,
history of yester years presented beautifully.
Qabala
Tour:
Three
hours drive for Qabala starts with desert. Then comes hill station.Good
Countryside drive from sea beach to desert and to Hill station.
Greenery
and cool air takes you to a different
world of winter sports,a resort village . The jungle and the lake are happening
tourist places. The icing on the cake is the Gondola ride. Breathtaking views
from both Gondolas makes your day. The winter sports site attracts thousands of
tourist to enjoy skiing and all snow games and activities. Hotels are too good.
We
always try to find an Indian connection which I got it here at Ateshgah.. Fire
temple. Yes….Fire temple. Agni devata worshipped n Lord Shiva ,Ganesha too were
worshipped. The museum tells the history of the place.Zorashtrians or Parsi
were also the locals here. Museums are worth watching.
Yanar
Dag a fire mountain is a wonder so also the mud volcano Tour. Indian
food is available in local restaurants. We can enjoy the local food too. They
eat less spicy than us. Naan in local restaurants is served with shoarma and
many types of fruits are also available.
The
city malls are good places for shopping along with the local markets nearby
Nizami Street.
All
and all
Come
to Baku
You
will love Baku
For
sure
Khushamuddin
